USA: steel imports in February fell 21% from last year
According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the United States imported a total of 1,505,000 tons of steel in February 2020, including 1,344,000 tons of finished steel (a decrease of 52.2% and 18.4%, respectively, to the January final data ) In the first two months of 2020, total imports and imports of rolled products amounted to 4,655,000 and 2,992,000 tons, which is 21.3% and 28.7% lower, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019. The share of the finished steel import market in February amounted to about 15%, and in the first two months of 2020 - 16%.
The key changes in the supply of steel products in February were in the following segments: heavy structural forms (+ 57%) and tin (+ 15%).
In February, the largest volumes of imports of finished steel were from South Korea - 158,000 tons (-13%), Turkey -73,000 tons (+ 44%), Japan -69,000 tons (-9%), Germany -52,000 tons (+ 7%) and Brazil - 37,000 tons (- 58%).
