According to Reuters, Chinese steel mills increased production by 7.7% in April compared with the previous month, driven by strong domestic demand, as the country began to gain momentum after easing restrictions imposed earlier this year to counter the coronavirus epidemic.
The total crude steel production in April amounted to 85.03 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), compared with 78.98 million tons in March, and also 0.2% higher than in April 2019.
The daily steel production last month grew to 2.83 million tons, which is 11% more than the annual minimum of 2.55 million tons in March. This was the highest since June 2019, according to Reuters estimates based on official data.
