The European Association of Steel Producers (EUROFER) predicts that this year in the EU, in all steel-consuming industries, production will fall 12.8% from the previous year.
Meanwhile, in 2021, production may return to an increase of 8.9%.
However, thanks to government support in the construction sector, consumption will decline significantly less than in other sectors. The construction industry, which consumes the most steel, is also the industry with the least impact on the COVID-19 pandemic this year, and it has been estimated that this industry will consume 35% of total EU annual steel consumption.
