According to the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), global stainless steel production in the third quarter of 2020 was 13.557 million tonnes, down 0.9% year-on-year.
According to ISSF, the third quarter was characterized by production growth in almost all regions of the world. In particular, the greatest growth was recorded in China (+ 14.0%), in Asia (excluding China) - (+ 50.6%), in Europe - (+ 5.4%).
In the US, stainless steel production in the third quarter fell by 25.4%, to 499 thousand tons.
In January-September 2020, world production fell by 7.8% compared to last year, or to 36.71 million tons.
During the same period, China produced 21.94 million tons (- 2.4%). Asia without China - reduced production by 21.8% to 4.593 million tons. European countries reduced production by 13.1% to 4.545 million tons. In the US, production in 9 months dropped by 22% to 1.576 million tons. Other countries (Korea, Indonesia, Russia, Brazil and South Africa) reduced production by 3.1% to 4.058 million tons.
