According to the latest data published by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), in the first quarter of this year, global crude stainless steel production reached 14.45 million tons, down 3.8% compared to the same period last year. Mainly due to the decline in China and the US.
Chinese stainless steel production in the first quarter was 8.011 million tons, up 4.1% from the fourth quarter of last year, but 8% less than the same period last year.
US stainless steel production in the first quarter was 569,000 tons, up 5.7% from the fourth quarter of last year, but down 8.8% from the same period last year.
During this period, China accounted for 55.4% of world stainless steel production.
