Global steel production decreased by 3.3% in January, 2023

As of January 2023, the global steel output of 63 producing countries was 145.3 million tons, down 3.3% from January 2022. 

In January 2023, Africa's output was 1.2 million tons, down 4.9% from January 2022. The output of Asia and Oceania was 107.5 million tons, down 0.2%. The output of EU (27) was 10.3 million tons, down 15.2%. The output of other European countries was 3.3 million tons, down 17.5%. The output of the Middle East was 3.8 million tons, up 19.7%. North American production was 9.1 million tons, down 5.6%. The output of South America was 3.6 million tons, down 0.6%.

Top 10 steel producing countries:

1. China: 79.5 million tons (up 2.3% from January 2022).

2. India: 10.9 million tons (- 0.2%).

3. Japan: 7.2 million tons (- 6.9%).

4. United States: 6.5 million tons (- 6.8%).

5. Russia: 5.8 million tons (- 8.9%).

6. South Korea: 5.5 million tons (- 9.8%).

7. Germany: 2.9 million tons (- 10.2%).

8. Brazil: 2.8 million tons (- 4.9%).

9. Iran: 2.7 million tons (+27.7%).

10. Türkiye: 2.6 million tons (- 17.6%).
